Your culture Desi weddings
Dholki to walima, and every event between.
A South Asian wedding is a week or more of events, each with its own look and guest list. We plan them as one celebration with one team, from the roka to the walima.
For Pakistani, Indian, Punjabi, Sikh and other South Asian families.
01The events
What the weeks look like.
Every family does it differently. We ask before we assume.
-
Roka and engagement
Kurmai, chunni chadana
The families make it official with gifts and sweets, and the groom's side places a chunni on the bride's head.
-
Dholki
Nights of dholak, songs and food at home in the weeks before. We bring decor, floor seating and sound that fit the room.
-
Mayun
Maiyan, vatna, ubtan
Yellow outfits and a turmeric paste for the bride or groom. We plan the setup and the cleanup, and time it around the next event.
-
Mehndi and sangeet
Henna, rehearsed dances and a stage built for performances. We plan the stage, the sound cues and guest henna stations.
-
Jaggo
A late-night procession of song and dance in Punjabi families, led by a pot of lamps. We plan the route, the dhol and the timing with the venue.
-
Choora and kalire
The bride's maternal uncles give her the choora, and her friends tie on the kalire. We set a calm morning space and have the photographer ready.
-
Sehra bandi and baraat
Ghodi, milni
The sehra is tied, the groom rides out on the ghodi, and the baraat arrives with dhol for the milni at the door. We time the cars, the dhol and the welcome.
-
Nikah or Anand Karaj
Laavan at the gurdwara
A nikah with your imam, or the four laavan around the Guru Granth Sahib at the gurdwara. We plan the space, the sound and the day around it.
-
Rukhsati and walima
Doli, reception
The bride's farewell, then the reception hosted by the groom's family. We decorate the doli car and give the walima its own look.
Five events in a week is five sets of decor and five timelines. It should be one team.
02What we handle
Planned, booked and run by us.
All through one coordinator. The details that come up most at Desi weddings.
- A distinct look for each event, one coordinator for all of them
- Mehndi and sangeet stages built for performances
- Bridal and guest henna, timed before the photos
- Dhol players and decorated cars for the baraat and the doli
- A nikah stage, or a timeline built around the gurdwara
- Sound and cues for every performance and speech
Faith-observant weddings
Segregated setups, women photographers and videographers, and help with your imam are part of the plan from the first call. For Sikh families, we build the day around the gurdwara.
How we plan faith-observant weddingsOther cultures we plan for
